Goodyear tyres for the world’s largest heavy goods vehicle
16 April 2013
Goodyear is equipping the world’s largest truck, built by the French heavy goods vehicle manufacturer Nicolas, with Off-The-Road (OTR) tyres. The powerful 1,000 hp machine, which can tow up to 535 tonnes, is fitted with GP-2B OTR tyres in size 385/95 R 25. The truck will be on show at Bauma in Munich on Nicolas’s stand N828 in outdoor area F8.
This Tractomas super truck from Nicolas, a company specialising in heavy vehicles, has been ordered by the mining company LCR and will be shipped to the Australian state of Queensland, to a lignite coal mine. The Tractomas TR 10x10 has a net weight of 40 tonnes and is ten metres long, 3.5 m wide and 4.6 metres high. It is powered by a 27-litre Caterpillar 1,000 hp diesel engine. This accelerates the whole combination, of around 535 tonnes, to a speed of 50 km/h.
The Goodyear GP-2B is a multi-purpose, high-performance OTR tyre with a tread of up to 100 per cent and is used mainly for mobile cranes in the area. The radial tyre offers high mileage, excellent lateral grip on loose surfaces and a high level of driving comfort. Thanks to its open shoulder ribs, it has a very efficient self-cleaning action. The Goodyear GP-2B R 25 tyre is fitted in size 385/95 R 25 on the Tractomas TR 10x10.
